The World of Nuald

Civilisation is ancient and the world has seen the rise of man to the pinnacles of science.  But solving the riddle of existence would unleash and new power on the world.  This power is know now as magic.  With new power came conflict and struggle as the old was replaced with the new.  Great civilisation crumbled but the meek did survive.  This new world is built on the ruins of the old one.  The pinnacles once reached forgotten. 

Elder God – Older god form a past era.
Prime God – Full fledge god of current era
Young God – New god.

Umbra (World of ghosts and dead and in the same physical location as Prime)

The Umbra

This is the plane of shadow it overlays the real plane but the inhabitants of both planes cannot see each other.  It is devoid of any real colour.  The structures of the real world bleed through to this one but in their future state old and dilapidated.  When you die you first pass over to the Umbra.  Then the spirit can travel to a place of judgement and they will go to heaven or hell.  A ghost is powerful spirit that can exist in both worlds for a short time.  The Lord of Death lives on this plane and extracts a toll for all who travel through it.  There is a single large city of spirits exists on this plan.  The city is one giant bureaucracy for the processing of sols in the afterlife.  Because the bureaucracy is corrupt its judgments do not always reflect truth.  A character that visits the Umber will soon learn the currency of the afterlife which is also the currency of the gods.  Souls and will of existence. 

Soul and the Essence of Existence

Soul or function mind has a force that exerts itself on reality “Essence of Existence”.  The most powerful of these is a live biological mind.  Much less powerfully are artificial minds and the minds of the dead (souls) but still of interest to gods and other beings.  The will of existence is what powers magic and a mind is limited in how much it can generate.  However multiply minds scale linearly and can be focused on a single thought which it the basic function of a god.  This drives Gods desire for worshippers and souls.  Souls are easier to direct if they are aligned i.e. think the similar.  Noting that copied minds do not scale well.  Some gods will take whatever souls they can get.  Souls on the Umbra are asked to pay this essence.  This can drain them to the point that they fade completely but if they do not vanish they will become stronger again just never as strong as they were in life.  If someone prays for the dead soul they receive more essence.  The praying person loses essence but they quickly regenerating it and may do not even notice.  This is the same mechanism that the gods use when people pray to them.

Earth Mother (Elder God)
Gia, Old Mother.

Mother to:       Blessed Sister, Hated Sister, Fool, all the Fey.
The Earth Mother is a god in decline but she still finds many worshipers among the druids, foresters, and Fey.  She attends the Court of Heaven. 
Seeing the Plight of the Elves after the cataclysm she descended among them and gifted them with fertility as before they were not.  As they were the creation of humans only born artificially and not meant to be anything other than servants.  The Planet had been deeply wounded and she asked that all that turn to her in need do what they can to restore the balance of nature.  While not openly defiant of the Fire King she did speak her mind in the Court of Heave.  Voicing Her shame to be associated with such destruction brought down by his actions.  Even to this day she will say her peace in the Court of Heaven, but the younger gods pay her no heed.  With the world environment now stable her attention has turned to the threats coming from the Fellmoor.

Father to:        The Fool and all the Fey and Efreets , Fiends.
The creator of the Fellmoor and first lord of heaven.  Victor of the transcendent wars.  When the humans forsakened him he turned his attention the struggling elves and sent them a tome of magic known as the Gods Grimoire.  This tome is purported to contain the simplest to the most unatonable of knowledge of magic.  It is said that any one reading the tome will learn to weave magic but only the most gifted can learn the secrets it keep.  With the loss of the human worships the Fire King his hold on Heaven was through guile and wit but eventual he was over throne and imprisoned on the elemental plan of earth.  While imprisoned he can no longer directly interact with his faithful his power can still be felt.  The Elves still worship him and seek to free him.  Which bring the elves into conflict with Haven so they need to be careful.   While Elves do not like humans and fell superior, those that seek magic knowledge in the name of the Fire King will be admitted to elven realms for that purpose. 
In recent times his faithful have taken to the shadows out of the light but all know they are always up to something.

Dogma:           What is the perfect Cog?
The Iron King is a great sentient machine intelligence that that was created in response the rise of the human gods by the machines.  Ultimately the machines lost the ascendance war but the Iron king survived even if his creators did not.  Given the new dynamics of celestial power the Iron king needs living worshipers.  The dwarves while not original intended in this purpose were ordered to do this.
However to become more effective the dwarves were elevated from mere drones to fully sentient and independent creatures.  While the Iron king would like to expand the number of worships there has not been many others races that bow to him.  As a god he is distant and unpopular but for a few the knowledge and logic are intoxicating.  The Iron King is also concerned with the threat of the Fellmoor and endeavours to contain it with the dwarves. 
Underground the machines are safe.  The Avatar in the goblin city waits and the Dwarves maintain an earthly version of the Iron King in servers deep in the Shield Mountains. 


Lord of Light (Prime God)

Marred:           Lady of Light
The Sun Lord was not always the lord of heaven and gained his position by throwing the form lord of heaven in to a prison on earth and stone.  With his coming the heavens gained stability and there by so did the world.  Many of the lords of the old order switch sides some in mid-sentence but a new order had arrived which elevated some will others were banished altogether.  The Lord of heaven might be a stickler for the law and bring stability but if one looks too closely one will find laps of morality particularly if you are talking about fidelity or justice.  His favourite of his children is the Bright Princess for which can do no wrong in his eyes.  He also banished the Prince of War for trying to usurp his rule however prince finds his way in to heaven with unending regularity.  His major mortal advocates are the ruling class and those that benefit most from organised structure.
To this end he is corner stone of most state religions and bestows divine right on those to rule.

The Lady of Light is not one to speak out of turn but all listen when she does speak.  Even her husband while clearly her superior still needs to weigh that against her over whelming popularity among the mortals.  When the Lord of Chaos was deposed that left Earth Mother and her 2 daughters on the losing side.  However Lord of Light was clearly interested in the daughters.  Of which he had already tasted one but the other was too virtuous to consent.  But the Lord of light also needed to legitimise his reign for which a marriage to one so virtuous would indeed do.  So a contract was drawn up and the earth mother, while the former consort of the lord of chaos, got to stay in heaven.  There by setting the tone for marriage to this day.  Her popularity stems from her unending pursuit of prosperity for others.  Her worships are known for looking after the poor and destitute.  But also advocating for changes that would bring about less poor and more prosperity to all.  Her detractors would say she does too much talking and takes no direct action against the Sun Lord even when it would be justified and supported.  It would be rare to find a woman or man how has not offered her a prayer.

The strong take what they want.  Women should breed with and be bred by the strongest man. Men are mentally week should be manipulated by women.  Life should be unrestrained by death and morality.  To this end she promises eternal life to her followers however delivery may not be what they expect.

Prince of Valour (Young God)

Favoured Weapon: Diamond Sword and Diamond Shield.
The Prince of Valour is known for being on the side of good and being incorruptible and uncompromising.  Typical stories are about morale or mortal hazards avoided by dedication to Justice and Honour.  How the strength of ones convictions can carry the day.  He won the diamond shield and sword from the Lord of Logic in a competition of wit.  The Lord of Logic was bested when the prince showed good was a logical outcome of the game of life.  Lord of Logic granted the princes request to be armed with his virtue resulting in the Diamond Sword and Shield. 
The prince takes great care to treat everyone with respect even his enemies.  While he does not seek out the ills of the world they have a way of finding him.  Initial his good nature lets danger past his guard but fate and luck seem to favour him.  He can be regularly found of the prime plane as an errant knight.  It is this habit his follows emulate and you can never be sure it is not the real Prince of Valour when faced with such a knight.

The Order of the Silver Flame

This is militant order is dedicated to fighting Evil.  They are mainly comprised of Prince of Valour followers and to a less extent Lord of Light followers.  The Prince of Valour followers feel that the main worshippers are:
1. Missing the Point.  It is not about how great the Prince is, but why and what he fights for.  (For reference he fights for Justice, honour and because he is an around good guy).
2. They (the main worshippers) are not organised enough to be effective in the fight.
The Lord of Light followers are disaffected by main worships and see that the truth and justices are too often sidelined to rules and politics in the main church.  Both sets of worships complement each other and are dedicated to unwavering fight against evil.  The followers of Lord of light bring discipline and order and the followers of Prince of Valour bring passion for justice and the fight against evil. 
The common folk revere the Orders dedication to justice.  While Nobles respect their discipline and marshal prowess.  Nobles also fear their uncompromising stance to evil as they can take the smallest things to seriously.  Also to be found in this order are followers of the Lord of Logic though only a few.  Again they are here primarily because their sense of justice is not felt so strongly by the main church (like those from the Lord of light) and secondly the Lord of Logic is not part of the Court of Heaven (some regard him as the enemy of man).  Hence the order of the silver flame allows them open worship.  Some with in the order clam they can feel the silver flame as a separate and distant ideal from the gods but those are few.


The Church of Heaven

(The Church of the Ascendance,
The Church of Light)
This Church encompasses the worship of the gods and primarily the Lord of light.  It is dominated by Male priests that follow a book of law called the Alta-Liber.   As all pay reverence (or should) to the Lord of light at these churches priests, priestesses monks and nuns of other orders can be found in these churches. 
Most Holy Father and Patriarch of the gods is also the lord of heaven.  Heaven, being the centre of power for celestial beings, and from which all beings derive their pace in the world.  The world and the heavens & hells and celestial bodies all need to be managed and that is what the Ministries of heaven are for.  While some ministries are headed by gods others are run by powerful members of the heaven.  Members of Heavens may have no function at all and merely exist at the grace of some powerful heavenly patron.  The church of heaven is an extension of the will of heaven on earth*.  As such it takes its direction form the Lord of Heaven as interpreted by his ministers on earth.  It is seen that rising in the church will also bring one closer to heaven.  The most devout and loyal may ascend to heaven directly, bypassing death.  This is no boast as the most powerful of churches once a decade hold an ascension ceremony for which the most worthy few ascend to heaven.  Even to witness such an event is said to be one of the greatest blessings.  Though a small number of trouble makers clam it is a scam to enrich the church.
The church maintains the right to bestow the right of rulership and also serves to advise such rulers.  Noting however being on the bad side of rules and power full people is not in the interest of the church. 

* earth denoting mortal world not the planet Earth

The main distinction between and powerful being and a god is the number of worships one has (or at least pray to by others occasionally). 

 

Sisters of the Holy Mother

This order is commonly though too worship the
Lady of Light but is in fact home to worshipers of the all life gods being Lady of Light, the Red Witch and their (Earth) mother, as they are all mothers.  It is difficult to tell who worships who for an outsider and the impression is that they all worship the lady of Light but many a word and action can have a double meaning.
